Substance P is a peptide neurotransmitter that was co-discovered in 1931 by the U.S. von Euler . It has been long thought to be involved in the transduction of pain signals, and is found (among other places) in the type-C fibers of peripheral nerves that carry pain signals to the central nervous system.
